Welcome to Gorilla Logistics
This induction explains the standards, safety requirements, and expectations for all drivers operating on behalf of our company.
All drivers are expected to read and understand this induction before commencing work.
Company Values
We expect all drivers to:
- Operate safely at all times.
- Treat customers professionally.
- Follow all road laws.
- Protect company and customer property.
- Report incidents immediately.
- Present themselves professionally.
Driver Requirements
Drivers must:
- Hold the appropriate licence for the vehicle being operated.
- Carry their licence while working.
- Be medically fit for duty.
- Comply with all fatigue regulations.
- Wear required PPE when instructed.
Required PPE may include:
- High-visibility shirt or vest
- Steel cap boots
- Long pants
- Hard hat (site dependent)
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
Vehicle Pre-Start Checks
Before every shift:
Check tyres
Check lights
Check mirrors
Check oil and coolant levels
Check registration label (if applicable)
Check load restraint equipment
Check refrigeration unit (if operating a refrigerated vehicle)
Check crane equipment (if operating a crane truck)
Report any defects immediately.
Do not operate an unsafe vehicle.
Load Restraint
Drivers are responsible for ensuring loads are secured correctly.
Requirements:
- Use appropriate straps and chains.
- Check restraints before departure.
- Re-check restraints during long trips.
- Never transport unsecured freight.
- Follow National Load Restraint Guide requirements.
Fatigue Management
Drivers must:
- Be fit for work.
- Take required rest breaks.
- Stop driving if fatigued.
- Notify management if unable to continue safely.
Fatigue is considered a major safety risk.
Mobile Phones
Drivers must not:
- Use handheld mobile phones while driving.
- Text while driving.
- Browse websites or social media while driving.
Use approved hands-free equipment only.
Drugs and Alcohol
Zero tolerance policy.
Drivers must not:
- Operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
- Operate vehicles under the influence of illegal drugs.
- Report to work impaired.
Any breach may result in immediate removal from duties.
Customer Service Standards
Drivers represent the company.
Drivers must:
- Arrive on time.
- Be courteous.
- Follow site rules.
- Keep vehicles clean and presentable.
- Communicate professionally.
Incident Reporting
Drivers must immediately report:
- Vehicle accidents
- Property damage
- Personal injuries
- Near misses
- Freight damage
- Customer complaints
Provide photographs where possible.
Site Safety
When attending customer sites:
- Follow all site rules.
- Sign in when required.
- Wear required PPE.
- Obey speed limits.
- Follow directions from site personnel.
Failure to follow site requirements may result in removal from site.
SAFETY TRAINING
Safety Commitment
Safety is the responsibility of every driver.
No delivery, pickup, or customer request is more important than working safely.
Drivers have the authority to stop work if they believe a task is unsafe.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Drivers must wear required PPE when instructed.
Minimum PPE may include:
- High-visibility shirt or vest
- Steel cap boots
- Long pants
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
- Hard hat (construction sites)
Drivers must inspect PPE regularly and replace damaged equipment.
Vehicle Safety Checks
A vehicle inspection must be completed before every shift.
Check:
- Tyres and wheel nuts
- Lights and indicators
- Mirrors
- Windscreen and wipers
- Oil levels
- Coolant levels
- Brakes
- Load restraint equipment
- Refrigeration unit (if applicable)
- Crane equipment (if applicable)
Do not operate an unsafe vehicle.
Load Restraint Safety
Drivers are responsible for ensuring freight is secured correctly.
Requirements:
- Use suitable straps, chains, and restraints.
- Inspect restraints before departure.
- Re-check restraints during long trips.
- Replace damaged equipment immediately.
- Follow the National Load Restraint Guide.
Never move a vehicle with an unsecured load.
Fatigue Management
Fatigue can be as dangerous as driving under the influence.
Drivers must:
- Be fit for work.
- Take required rest breaks.
- Stop driving if tired.
- Report fatigue concerns immediately.
Warning signs include:
- Yawning
- Difficulty concentrating
- Missing road signs
- Drifting within lanes
If fatigued, stop safely and rest.
Manual Handling
When lifting:

Lift beyond your capability
Rush

Use forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, or other mechanical aids whenever possible.
Site Safety
Before entering a customer site:
- Observe site rules.
- Sign in if required.
- Follow traffic management plans.
- Wear required PPE.
- Stay alert for pedestrians and plant equipment.
Construction sites present additional hazards and require extra caution.
Reversing Safety
Reversing incidents are among the most common transport accidents.
Drivers should:
- Walk around the vehicle before reversing.
- Use mirrors and cameras.
- Reverse slowly.
- Use a spotter where available.
- Stop immediately if visibility is lost.
Avoid reversing whenever possible.
Incident Reporting
Report immediately:
- Vehicle accidents
- Near misses
- Personal injuries
- Property damage
- Freight damage
- Unsafe conditions
Provide photos and a written explanation where possible.
Drugs and Alcohol
Drivers must not:
- Consume alcohol before or during work.
- Use illegal drugs.
- Report to work impaired.
Breaches may result in immediate suspension from duties.
Emergency Procedures
In an emergency:
- Stop work immediately.
- Ensure personal safety.
- Call emergency services if required.
- Notify company management.
- Secure the area if safe to do so.
- Complete an incident report
